Jesus said, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? and in your name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you who work iniquity.” (Mt. 7: 21, 22.
Peter said, “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who secretly shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.” (2 Pt. 2: 1).
Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” On the one hand Jesus said that believers should not perish. On the other hand He condemned some for working iniquity and said that He never knew them.
The first group were people whom the Lord often heard worshipping Him, confessing Him and declaring their faith saying, “Lord, Lord.” Yet, in the end, He didn’t know them. As we read this we are forced to ask, “How can one be a believer and a worshipper of God and God NOT know them? How is it there are some believers He does NOT know?” If He does not know them, then it could only be that they were never a part of His family. How can one be a believer and not be in the family of God? If they weren’t in His family, it’s because they got the birth wrong. How right their life was didn’t matter.
Some of the second group got the birth right, but their life and/or doctrine was wrong. If both groups were rejected by Jesus, then, contrary to popular opinion, it must be true that to Him it makes a difference what you believe, teach, practice and how you worship. You must get the birth right and the life right, else how right you are otherwise won’t matter. The only way to be sure is to search the only source of TRUTH, the Bible. We encourage you to use this website to help you search His truth.
If it really doesn’t matter what we believe, then we are both safe. If it does matter, then someone is in trouble
