The Divider

Luke 12.49 "I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!

50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed!

51 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.

52 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three.

53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."

Is Jesus the Christ? Is He Lord? Is He God? Is He the Creator? Is He the Head of the church? Does He have all authority?

These questions illustrate how He divides. He divides with truth. We find many propositions about Christ in the New Testament. They are either true or false. Many families have been divided because one decided to accept the truth that Jesus Christ is Lord while others in the family did not. The difficult question that often faces those who hear the gospel is this: Will I maintain peace with my family and friends or will I recognize the truth and obey the commands of Christ?

Christ gave His life for the truth and He embraces all who are willing to do the same. While believing and obeying Him may cause divisions on earth, we recognize that we cannot "have it both ways." If we do not recognize His claim to every part of us, we are not His and He is not ours.

Dear Father, we are so grateful for the One who gave Himself for us and for the truth. He has shown us how to live. May we be willing to give our lives for the truth about Him as we show His love to others. Help those who are hurting. We ask this in the name of Christ, our Lord and our God. Amen.

1 John 5.14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Only God can know HOW our prayers WORK but we believe HE answers. Please write me to add names to the prayer list and to report changes in status.

Let us be thankful and prayerful!

Love
Brad Forgy
