THE GREATEST CONSOLATION FROM GOD IS HIS PROMISE FOR LIFE AND HAPPINESS. STANDING ON THE PROMISE OF GOD IS THE SINGLE GREATEST ACT WE CAN PERFORM.
THE STRONG CONSOLATION OF GOD/A STUDY OF THE ABRAHAMIC PROMISE
BASIC DIVISION OF STUDY
(1) NECESSARY EVIDENCES FOR CHRISTIAN FAITH Fulfilled over 3000 years of history without pause or violation.
(2) THE MEN HISTORICALLY INVOLVED All having a specific role with lessons of faith and obedience all their own.
(3) THE INTERMEDIATE FULFILLMENT The evolution of the Promise moved from element to physical to spiritual.
(4) THE FINAL FULFILLMENT The final fulfillment is its spiritual component. The promise was not meant to be only physical in nature.
(5) THE CHRISTIAN'S INHERITANCE Christianity is the spiritual conclusion to the Abrahamic promise. There is no component after it, except the eternal inheritance of heaven.
(6) DOCTRINES EFFECTED BY THE FULFILLMENT OF THE PROMISE
If the promise is so intricate to the Gospel, then all doctrines in the Gospel must be firmly related and should be understood in view of the promise.
IF THE PROMISE IS THE SINGLE GREATEST PIECE OF CHRISTIAN EVIDENCE, THEN IT ALONE WOULD PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN VALIDATING OUR FAITH.
(1) WITHOUT FAITH ONE CANNOT PLEASE GOD Builds a greater confidence in the God we serve, knowing He the God of the ancients and is the Ancient of Days who created all things and keeps His promise.
(2) AN ABUNDANCE OF EVIDENCE Every name in the genealogy is piece of evidence. Every city for every encounter by these men of faith is a piece of evidence. Every action of rewarded faith is a piece of evidence. Every inspired word spoken by these men of faith is a piece of evidence. No other religion in history can claim the cultural richness or clarity of fulfillment evidenced by the promise.
(3) EVIDENCE IN NATURE WILL LEAD ONE TO GOD Romans 1. The evidence of God is clearly seen in nature, but His will cannot be known without special revelation. The evidence of nature and the spoken revelation are in harmony.
(4) GOD'S ABILITY TO MAKE AND FULFILL PROMISES WITHOUT COMPROMISE The promise to Abraham stands above all physical evidence of nature to the existence of God.
(5) LUKE'S NARRATIVE PRESENTED WITH CERTAINTY The first three chapters of Luke take great effort to introduce Jesus as the fulfillment of the promise to Abraham. Luke also subtly shows the work of the King, His Kingdom, His territory, His Law and His subjects throughout his biography of Jesus.
(6) FOURFOLD WITNESS
1. LAND - Israel literally inherited the land of promise. 2. NATION - a great nation literally emerged from Abraham 3. SEED - the Saviour of the world was literally born of family of Abraham 4. BLESSING
(7) OUR MISSION IS TO PROVE THE WILL OF GOD
IN SEEKING THE CONFIRMATION OF GOD'S PLAN WE WILL FOLLOW THE PLAN OF SALVATION FROM THE BEGINNING. THE PROMISE WOULD COME BY:
WOMAN. In the Garden of Eden, long before Abraham was born, God spoke the first clue of His grand plan. The salvation of the world would come through a woman without the aid of a male in conception (Gen. 3:15).
FAMILY, Genesis 12: 1-12
