My Task
Acts 20.22 And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. 23 I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. 24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.
Paul knew his assignment--his task. His task enabled him to set aside the natural desire for self-preservation as he finished the race. Like his Master, he was ready to go to Jerusalem and endure suffering in order to fulfill God's will for his life.
Many youngsters will graduate from high schools during the next few weeks. Most of them in the USA will be overwhelmed at times by the vast array of educational and career options. Parents, teachers, friends and counselors have the opportunity to challenge them to ask, "What is my task?" "What does God want me to do with my life?" "What is my Jerusalem?"
Some of us who received our diplomas 30 years or more ago still grapple with this question. While we do not expect to receive our "assignment" the way Paul received his (Acts 9.15-16), our determination to continue to fearlessly, prayerfully ask this question enables us to live purposefully and joyfully.
Dear Father, we are so grateful that Jesus was devoted to His task and that Paul was devoted to his task. Help us as we continue to seek to know and do Your will each day. We are grateful for the purpose, hope and joy we have in Christ. Help those who are hurting. We ask this in the name of Christ, the Beloved. Amen.
1 John 5.14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
Only God can know HOW our prayers WORK but we believe HE answers. Please write me to add names to the prayer list and to report changes in status.
Let us be thankful and prayerful!
Love Brad Forgy
