ABRAHAM
Abraham is the father of the Jews and the father of our faith. His life and the promise God gave to him is the single greatest evidence in support of the integrity and authenticity of the Bible and especially of Christianity. All of Jewish and Christian history and religious revelation has transpired to fulfill this ancient promise. It affects all that is to be understood and believed about Jesus and His Gospel. All other evidences within scripture fall under this umbrella. No other religion in the world can boast of a 3500 year old promise that has evidence of being fulfilled in such dramatic ways, being fulfilled in a land inheritance, endless posterity, specific nationality, specific person and with global effects. Thousands of prophecies contained within the 39 books of the Old Testament are supporting documentation and evidence of the greatness of this promise.
To Abraham was born Isaac, the only son through whom his bloodline would flow for the blessing of the world. To Isaac was born Jacob, whose name was changed to Israel. To Jacob was born sons who would become the 12 tribes of the nation of Israel. To this nation was given a law that would preserve the bloodline until the promised seed would be born that would be the blessing to the world. The promised seed is Jesus, son of Abraham, son of Isaac, son of Jacob, son of Judah, son of David, son of Joseph and Mary. He is the blessing to the world.
How the fulfillment of this promise is treated in the Bible is worthy of a work of encyclopedic proportion. It is worthy of lesson series for building our faith and hope.
