HARDLY REASSURING

There is a story about a monastery in Europe perched high on a cliff several hundred feet in the air. The only way to reach the monastery was to be suspended in a basket which was lifted to the top of the cliff by several monks who tugged and tugged.

Obviously the ride up the steep cliff was terrifying. One tourist got exceedingly nervous about half way up as he noticed that the rope by which he was suspended was old and frayed.

With a trembling voice, he asked the monk who was riding with him in the basket how often they changed the rope.

The monk thought for a moment and then answered sort of matter-of-factly, "Whenever it breaks."

There are a lot of people who believe that God has them in a basket dangling hundreds of feet off the ground with an old and frayed rope. But, we know that the Bible tells us over and over and over that God loves us and would never do such a thing like that to us. Maybe, when you feel like that you should take a good look around and determine whether or not your own decisions and choices put you in that basket!
